Harvey Nichols gunman was ‘stalker’
The man who shot dead a counter assistant at London’s exclusive Harvey Nichols department store, before shooting himself, had been convicted of harassing her last month.
The 30-year-old, who reportedly had previously worked at the store as a security guard, was believed to be a former boyfriend of the 22-year-old victim.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that the man had admitted to harassing the woman in court last month. He had been due to return to court for sentencing on September 21.
The shooting took place around 19:45 BST on the ground floor of the department store in Knightsbridge, shortly before it was due to close.
Witnesses said that the man walked up to the beauty counter where the victim worked had fired several shots. It is believed that the woman was hit three times. The man then reportedly turned the gun on himself, shooting himself in the head.
Harvey Nichols reopened for business as usual on Wednesday morning, although the ground floor remained sealed off.
Neither the gunman nor the victim has yet been named.
