British man killed by crocodile

A British man whose body was discovered in northern Australia at the weekend is believed to have been killed by a crocodile.

Russell Harris, 37, from Eastwood, Nottingham, disappeared on Saturday, while snorkelling with a friend off Picnic Beach on the island of Groote Eylandt, off the north east coast of Australia.

His body was discovered on Sunday.

Local police said that injuries found on Mr Harris’ body could have been the result of a crocodile attack.

It was also reported that a 12ft saltwater crocodile has been spotted close to where Mr Harris’ body was found.

Mr Harris had been working on the island for the past five months as a supervisor at a mine operated by Anglo-Australian mining group BHP Billiton.

An autopsy is due to be carried out on his body in Darwin.
