Drivers urged to take care in high winds
Drivers have been asked to take extra care on the roads as heavy rain and strong, gusty winds are forecast to hit parts of Wales and northern England today, Wednesday 28 September.
The Highways Agency has warned drivers of high-sided vehicles to take extra care during today's windy conditions.
The Met Office forecast that parts of Wales and northern England, especially high level routes, will experience heavy rain with strong, gusty winds expected to reach 50-60mph through Wednesday afternoon and early evening.
In the affected areas, heavy rain and spray could reduce visibility and drivers are asked to slow down and keep well back from the vehicle in front as it takes longer to reduce speed and stop in wet weather. Drivers passing through flood water are also reminded to test their brakes before increasing speed.
Drivers are advised to check the latest information on weather and road conditions before they set off, and during their journey via radio weather forecasts and road condition reports.

Gritters readied as northern England prepares for snow
With snow forecast to affect western, central and northern England over the next few days, the Highways Agency's gritting fleet is being mobilised to treat ice and snow on motorways and other strategic roads. The Agency receives regular weather forecasts and mobilises its fleet gritting operation whenever ice or snow is predicted, it said.
