Vicar stabbed in stomach

A vicar has been stabbed in the stomach with a kitchen knife as he went to visit a parishioner in northwest London.

The Rev Ian Brady, who is in his forties, was attacked as he left the vicarage of St Anselm’s Church in Stanmore around 8pm on Tuesday night.

He managed to stumble 100 yards to the parishioner’s house, where he was found, with a three-inch blade still in his stomach.

Rev Brady was taken to Northwick Park Hospital, where he is described as being in a serious, but stable, condition.

Police do not yet know the motive behind the attack and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Rev Brady, who is married with two young children, had worked with children living on the streets in Brazil, before he came to St Anselm’s.
