Walker murder trial begins

Two men have pleaded not guilty to the murder of Liverpool teenager Anthony Walker.

Michael Barton, 17, and Paul Taylor, 20, both from Huyton, Merseyside, appeared at Preston Crown Court on Monday, charged with the 18-year-old’s murder.

The pair, who have also been charged with conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm to Anthony and his cousin, have denied all charges.

The trial is due to continue at Liverpool Crown Court on Tuesday.

Anthony died after being attacked with an axe in McGoldrick Park in Huyton in July.

Three other people appeared in court last week charged in connection with the murder. Paul John Morson, 25, from Huyton, was charged with perverting the course of justice and Robert Williams, 31, and Tracy Ann Garner, 34, both from Kirkdale, were charged with conspiring to assist an offender.

All three were released on bail and are due to reappear before Liverpool Crown Court on March 8.
