Thieves kill man with his own car

Police have launched a murder inquiry after a 67-year-old father of four was knocked down and killed by thieves who stole his car.

Merseyside Police have appealed for witnesses to an incident in Sefton, which occurred at about 8.20pm on Wednesday November 23, to come forward.

Ken Bostock was opening his garage door at his home in Waterside, Sefton when two men climbed into his car and drove off. Police said they believed that the vehicle had been driven towards Mr Bostock when he attempted to stop the offenders, and he was knocked down.

He had just picked his wife up from work and when she went to look for her husband, she found a neighbour attempting to administer first aid. Taken to Fazakerley Hospital, he later died.

Police said that the car, a black Volkswagon Golf, was later found burnt out a short distance away in Glovers Lane, Netherton.

Detective Chief Inspector Bob Marsden said: "We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident in Waterside to come forward. Likewise, if anyone saw the car in the Netherton area, where the car was recovered, I'd ask them to come forward."

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Incident Room at Copy Lane Police Station on 0151 777 3165 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
