Superdrug unveils expansion plan

Health and beauty retailer Superdrug has announced plans to open at least 35 new stories in the UK this year, as well as expand into Ireland.

The £14.6 million scheme also includes plans to double the number of the firm’s stores in central London.

Superdrug said that 350 jobs would be created by the new scheme.

The locations for the new stores include Alloa, Ayr and Wick in Scotland and Harlsden and Enfield in London.

The scheme will also see the completion of a makeover of the company’s 720 UK stores, with 100 outlets remaining to be rebranded.

Seven million customers visited Superdrug – the UK’s second largest health and beauty retailer – in the run-up to Christmas.

In May last year, Superdrug’s parent company, AS Watson, said that there was the potential for 1,000 Superdrug stores in the UK.

Commenting on the plans, Superdrug Managing Director Euan Sutherland, said that the firm was “confident in our formula of growth”. He said: “That is why we will be opening a brand new or re-branded store for Superdrug customers every single week this year.”
