Second 24-hour strike on Tube

The London Underground has been hit by another 24-hour strike as a row over staff rotas continues.

Members of the Rail Maritime and Transport union walked out at 6.30pm yesterday evening on 24-hour strike.

Twenty Tube stations have been closed due to the strike, although London Underground insisted that the strike had little overall effect on services.

An LU spokesperson said: "At the height of the morning peak, less than 10% of stations were closed due to industrial action."

Tim O'Toole, Managing Director of the London Underground, said that "good services" were running on 10 out of 12 lines.

However, the RMT claimed that there had been travel chaos on the network this morning.

The union also accused LU of placing staff in positions they were not trained for, in order to keep stations open - claims, which were denied by LU.

There were also delays on the Northern Line, due to unconnected unofficial strike action in support of a sacked driver at the Morden depot.

The strike is due to end at 6.30pm this evening.
