Baby joy for Chancellor Gordon Brown
The wife of Chancellor Gordon Brown is pregnant, a Treasury spokesperson has announced.
Mr Brown's wife Sarah is expecting the baby in July and the spokesperson said that the couple were "absolutely delighted" with the news.
Mr and Mrs Brown have a two-year-old son John, who is named after the Chancellor's father. The couple's first child, a daughter called Jennifer Jane, died in January 2002 aged just ten days old. She had been born seven weeks prematurely and weighed just 2lbs 4oz.
Mr Brown had described his daughter as an "inspiration" to both him and his wife and said: "I don't think we'll be the same again".
The birth of John in October 2003 brought much joy to the couple and Mr Brown declared that he was part of the "happiest family in Britain".
Mr Brown, 54 and Mrs Brown, 42, married in 2000.
A spokesperson for Prime Minister Tony Blair said: "Congratulations is the word. The Prime Minister has been aware of the news for some time."

British Troop Withdrawal From Iraq 'Unlikely'
The Defence Secretary Des Browne is expected to tell the Commons that there are currently no plans to reduce the number of British troops in Iraq. Ambitious plans to decrease the number of soldiers from 4,100 may have been withdrawn, sparked by recent fighting in Basra, the BBC has reported.

More homes evacuated as flood misery continues
Around 250 homes have been evacuated in Oxford as the city became the latest area of Britain to be affected by flooding. The homes were evacuated in the Osney area of the city and some residents seeking shelter stayed in Oxford United's Kassam stadium.

Blair confirms referendum on EU Constitution
Prime Minister Tony Blair has confirmed today that there will be a referendum on the new European Treaty, but the timing for the poll remains uncertain. Mr Blair told Parliament today that it was time, once and for all, for Britain to decide it wants to be a leading partner and ally of Europe, or on its margins.
