Teenager remanded over schoolboy death

A 14-year-old boy has appeared in court charged with the murder of schoolboy Joe Geeling.

The eleven-year-old, who suffered from cystic fibrosis, disappeared last Wednesday afternoon shortly after leaving St Gabriel's Roman Catholic High School in Bury, Greater Manchester.

His body was found in a park in Bury on Thursday. A post-mortem examination revealed that he died from multiple stab wounds.

The 14-year-old appeared before Bury Magistrates on Monday. He was remanded in secure accommodation until March 13.

Joe's parents Tom and Gwen, his sisters Kelly and Danielle and brothers Sean and James released a statement paying tribute to the schoolboy. They described him as "special" and a "little angel", who did not let his illness - an inherited condition that mainly affects the lungs and digestive system - hold him back.
