New Kember video released

New video footage showing kidnapped British peace activist Norman Kember and two other hostages has been broadcast on Arab television network al-Jazeera.

The video clip, which was dated February 28, showed the 74-year-old, who had been in Iraq working for the Christian Peacemaker Teams when he was kidnapped, along with two colleagues, Canadians James Loney, 41 and Harmeet Singh Sooden, 32.

However, the fourth hostage, American Tom Fox, 54, did not appear in the video.

A previously unknown group calling itself the Swords of Righteousness Brigade abducted the four men in Baghdad at the end of November last year. The last video footage of the four hostages was shown on al-Jazeera on January 28.

The new video shows the three men sitting in chairs and talking, although there is no sound. According to a commentary on the tape, the men were asking their governments to work to secure their release.

A spokesperson for the Foreign Office said that they were "concerned" that only three of the four hostages appeared on the tape and said that they would "seek reassurance" that all four hostages were okay.

The release of the video comes two days after vigils were held in the UK to mark the 100th day since the hostages were abducted.
