Glitter set to appeal against sentence
Former pop star Gary Glitter is to appeal against his three-year sentence for child abuse in Vietnam, his lawyer has announced.
The 61-year-old, whose real name is Paul Gadd, was found guilty earlier this month of sexually molesting two girls, aged 11 and 12, at his home in the Vung Tao resort in southern Vietnam, last year.
He was sentenced to three years in prisons and also ordered to pay compensation of five million Vietnamese dong (£180) to the victims' families.
Following his conviction, Glitter told reporters that he was innocent and accused the media of conspiring against him.
Glitter's solicitor Le Thanh Kinh said that he had met with the former star at Phuoc Co prison where he signed appeal papers.
The three-year sentence imposed on Glitter was the minimum that could be imposed for sexual abuse of a minor in Vietnam.
Glitter could be released as early as Christmas. Upon his release he would be deported, although it is not known whether or not he would return to the UK.
