IOC get progress report on 2012 Olympics

London's progress on preparing for the 2012 Olympics is being examined by Olympic officials during a visit to the capital.

The co-ordination commission from the International Olympic Committee will receive progress reports in different areas, such as sport, communications, transport and the environment and visit sites around the capital during their three-day visit.

The committee is expected to visit the 500-acre Olympic Park site in Stratford, east London and the Stratford International Station, which will provide transport for spectators to the Olympic site.

The committee is also expected to visit the Channel Tunnel Rail Link during their visit.

However, they are not expected to view the new Wembley Stadium, which has been dogged by problems and will not be completed in time for this year's FA Cup final.

During their visit, the commission will also hear from representatives of local stakeholders such as the Greater London Authority, the British Olympic Association and the Department of Culture, Media and Sport.

There will be 26 sports on the Olympic Programme in London in 2012 and around 10,500 athletes are expected to take part.
