Gary Lineker's brother jailed for tax fraud
The brother of former England football captain Gary Lineker has been jailed for his part in a £220,000 tax fraud.
Wayne Lineker, 43, was sentenced to two-and-a-half years at Southwark Crown Court in London.
The millionaire, who owns a string of successful bars in Spain, Portugal and the Canary Islands, had pleaded guilty to conspiracy to defraud the Inland Revenue at a hearing last week.
The court heard how Lineker smuggled foreign cash into Britain using unsuspecting family and friends, before it was then laundered through a series of bank accounts.
Lineker's manager, David Hodges, also 43, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to defraud the Inland Revenue and was sentenced to 20 months in prison.
John Stacey, 56, who worked for NatWest Stockbrokers, was convicted of the same charge following a two-week trial earlier this year. He had helped to launder the money once it arrived in Britain.
He was sentenced to 18 months in prison.
