Murder inquiry launched following teen's death in London

A murder inquiry has been launched after a 13-year-old boy, injured in a fight in east London, died in hospital.

The teenager, who was originally from Lithuania, received a severe head injury during a fight between two groups of youths in Princes Terrace, near West Ham United's ground Upton Park.

A Scotland Yard spokesperson said that the victim had been with a group of between six and ten youths who were believed to have been fighting with a larger gang.

Five youths have been arrested in connection with the investigation.

Although the attack happened close to the West Ham ground, police said that the assault was "not football related in any way".

Detective Chief Inspector Jason Gwilliam said: "Officers are carrying out a forensic examination of the scene and we are working closely with schools in the immediate area to assist with enquiries.

"We would urge anybody who has any information about this incident, or any further information, to contact the incident room."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the incident room on: 0208 345 3865 or Crimestoppers anonymously on: 0800 555 111.
