Substantial rise in complaints against banks
The number of complaints against UK High Street banks increased by 50% last year, according to the Banking Codes Standards Board (BCSB).
The BCSB report said that customers were most upset about interest rates and default charges.
Around 3,500 complaints and enquiries were received by the BCSB in 2005.
The watchdog warned that they were usually only contacted as the last resort and warned that their figures may only be "the tip of an iceberg".
The BCSB has warned that banks could be reported to the Financial Services Authority unless they improve their handling of customers complaints.

The Healthcare Commission has told the NHS that it needs to improve the handling of patient complaints. The Commission, which handles complaints that the NHS cannot resolve, made the comment as it published figures which indicated that the NHS were not doing enough to resolve grievances locally.

Sunbeds 'As Damaging As Smoking', Report Finds
Using sunbeds can be as damaging to your health as smoking, a new report published today has found. The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) had previously assessed sunbeds or sunlamps as "probably carcinogenic", but has now said their use is definitively "carcinogenic to humans".

Northern Rock boss, Adam Applegarth will receive a £760,000 pay-off, the ailing bank has announced today. Mr Applegarth, who stepped down as chief executive in December, could receive a generous £63,333 a month for up to a year under his severance deal.

Over 1,000 Police Names Passed to IPCC In Hillsborough Investigation
1,444 serving and former police officers have been passed to the Independent Police Complaints Commission as part of its investigation into the Hillsborough disaster. Keith Vaz, the Home Affairs Committee chairman, told MPs the "huge number" had been revealed to him in a letter from South Yorkshire Police's chief constable.
