Men jailed for British couple's murder

Two Venezuelan men have been jailed for a total of 96 years for the kidnap and murder of a British couple in Spain.

Jorge Real Sierra, 56, and his brother-in-law Juan Antonio Velazquez, 40, were found guilty of the murder of Anthony and Linda O'Malley, from Llangollen, north Wales, at a court in Alicante, Spain.

Sierra was jailed for 52 years , while Velazquez was jailed for 44 years and 6 months.

Mr and Mrs O'Malley had disappeared in 2002 after travelling to Spain to search for a retirement home to buy.

The couple were lured to a villa by Sierra and Velazquez after they replied to a fake ad placed by the men.

When they arrived, the couple were abducted and held in the cellar of the villa. Mr O'Malley was then forced to withdraw over £17,000 from his bank account, before the couple were eventually murdered.

Mr O'Malley, 42, died from asphyxiation, while Mrs O'Malley, 56, is believed to have died from a heart attack brought on by the stress of the situation.
