Fall in Premiership wage packets
Wages for Premiership footballers have dropped for the first time in the league's history.
The report by Deloitte & Touche's Sports Business Group showed that the total wage bill for Premiership clubs fell by 3.2% in the 2004/05 season.
However, the figures do not take into account the broadcasting deal, which will generate an additional £1.7 billion for Premiership clubs.
Deloitte said that wages had risen in the Premiership, which was established in 1992, by an average of 20% each year.
However, in spite of the recent drop in wages, players in England still earned more than their European counterparts.
In Italy, which had the second highest wages bill in Europe, the total wage bill was £561 million - 29% lower than the £785 million spend on wages in the Premier League - while in the top Spanish league, the wages bill amounted to £444 million.

Premiership sides net £625m TV rights deal
Next season's FA Premiership winner will receive £50 million, £20 million more than the current season's winner, following a new deal agreed on overseas television rights. The deal guarantees that even the bottom team in the Premiership league will receive £30 million.

Footballer injured in nightclub brawl
Chelsea defender Wayne Bridge has injured in a disturbance at a London nightclub during a night out with fellow Premiership players. The disturbance happened at the Embassy Club in Mayfair, where it is understood an end-of-season private party was being held for footballers from the Chelsea and Arsenal teams.

Increase In Living Wage Rate
The UK Living Wage Rate has risen by 2.6% from today, Monday, and set to £7.85 per hour. According to the Living Wage Foundation it is 21% higher than the national minimum wage of £6.50 per hour. This will improve the take home pay of 35,000 low-paid workers across the country who are employed by over 1,000 Living Wage accredited organisations.
