Police continue to question man in Nickell murder case

Police investigating the murder of model Rachel Nickell in 1992 are continuing to question a 40-year-old man about the case.

Ms Nickell, 23, was murdered as she walked on Wimbledon Common with her two-year-old son Alex. She was sexually assaulted and stabbed 49 times.

It is understand that the man being questioned is a convicted sex killer who is currently being detained at Broadmoor secure hospital.

Police have not named the man and he has not been arrested.

The man is being questioned following a breakthrough in DNA testing. A trace of DNA, which could help out rule suspects in the case, was reportedly discovered in September 2004. According to newspaper reports, the discovery was made when Scotland Yard re-examined several unsolved cases using new scientific techniques.

Police continue to question man over 1975 murder
Police are continuing to hold a man in connection with the murder of 11-year-old schoolgirl Lesley Molseed more than 30 years ago. The 53-year-old man from Oldham was arrested on Sunday in connection with the murder. Lesley disappeared from her home in Rochdale on October 5, 1975, after leaving to go to local shops on an errand for her mother.

Police to question man over Angelika murder
Police are preparing to question a handyman over the murder of Polish student Angelika Kluk. A murder inquiry was launched after Angelika's body was discovered on Friday night, concealed within St Patrick's Church in the Anderston area of Glasgow. The 23-year-old had last been seen around 2pm on September 24.

Police to question man in Lauren murder investigation
Detectives investigating the murder of 10-year-old Lauren Pilkington-Smith are waiting to question a man arrested in north Wales at the weekend. The 44-year-old man is being held by police in north Wales in connection with two attacks, including a serious sexual assault.

Suspected London bomber to be returned to UK
A British man wanted for questioning in connection with the failed London bomb attacks on July 21 is to be extradited to the UK within 35 days, an Italian court has ruled. Osman Hussein (27) will appeal the decision to the Italian Supreme court, according to his lawyers.

Double Murder Suspect Arrested
Following the arrest on Sunday morning of double murder suspect James Allen police have appealed for people to check on any friends and relatives who could have come into contact him. Detectives made the appeal after 36-year-old Allen was arrested early on Sunday after being spotted by an off-duty officer on his way to work in Leeds.
