No trial for Mount Everest death

Three men facing manslaughter charges over the death of Michael Matthews, who fell to his death on Mount Everest, will not face trial.

The 22 year old City trader died after reaching the summit on a guided tour seven years ago.

Out There Trekking, the tour company was alleged of negligence, but Judge Jeffrey Rivlin QC said there was no evidence the men or the expedition company had acted with gross negligence."

Mr Matthews body has never been found, and his father launched a prosecution which claimed the touring company left him on his own on the descent and the oxygen he was supplied with was faulty.

Out There Trekking have expressed sympathy for the family but are also relieved that the case is now over.

Poorest children have highest death from injury risk
Children from the poorest families in England and Wales face greater risks of dying from injury than children in all other social groups, a study has claimed. Ten years ago, the death rate from injury and poisoning for children in the lowest social class was five times greater than that for children in the highest social class.

15-Year-Old Arrested After 60 Dogs Killed In Fire
At least 60 dogs have been killed in a fire at a dogs home in Manchester, which is believed to have been started deliberately. A 15-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of arson after a fire was started at Manchester Dogs' Home in Moss Brook Road, Harpurhey, on Thursday.

Experts Sent In To Oversee Hospital Reforms
The government have announced special measures are being taken against 11 hospitals over "major failings". The hospitals were among 14 investigated over high death rates, with health secretary Jeremy Hunt saying that the 11 highlightes had "problems so entrenched that tough action was needed.
