Terrorist threat rating system simplified
The official rating of terrorist threats to the UK has been simplfied and reduced to five levels instead of seven.
The levels of alert are now: low, moderate, substantial, severe and critical. The new system combines the previous ratings of 'severe general' and 'severe defined' into one category and scraps the previous lowest category of 'negligible'.
The current state of alert in Britain is 'severe' - it had previously been set at 'severe general' since August last year.
The introduction of the new system followed criticism of the old system before the July 7 bombings in London in a report by a parliamentary committee.
The announcement of the new system was welcomed by Shadow Home Secretary David Davis.
The new levels are displayed on the MI5 website at www.mi5.gov.uk and at the Home Office website at www.homeoffice.gov.uk .

A new colour-coded rating system for Welsh schools has been revealed by Education Minister Huw Lewis. Under the new system 236 schools in Wales have been rated 'green', meaning they have performed the best, while 81 schools have been rated 'red'.

LU Train Hits Obstruction On Bakerloo Line
A London Underground train has hit an obstruction on the Bakerloo line, causing severe delays. The line was suspended between Elephant & Castle and Piccadilly Circus, while the rest of the line was severely disrupted. Transport for London (TfL) said the tunnel had not collapsed and that no-one was injured.

More than a million children affected by 'severe poverty'
Nearly 1.3 million children are living in severe poverty in the UK, a report by Save the Children has revealed. The charity said that around one in ten children in the UK are now living in families where the income is so low that children are living without essentials like a proper diet or heating in the home.
