Police investigate Royal phone-tapping allegations

Police are continuing to question two men in connection with an investigation into allegations of phone-tapping in Prince Charles' household.

Three men were arrested on Tuesday, including Clive Goodman from the 'News of the World', after three members of staff at Clarence House reported alleged repeated security breaches within the telephone networks.

According to reports, one man - not Mr Goodman - has now been released on bail.

It is understood that the allegations relate to the interception of mobile phone calls.

Scotland Yard warned that the allegations could have "potential security implications".

The investigation, which was launched more than seven months ago, has also now been widened beyond Clarence House to include other public figures, reportedly including one MP.

The possibility that other royal households, including Buckingham Palace, may have had their phone calls intercepted, has also not been ruled out by police.

It is believed that other public figures, including Cabinet ministers, politicians and celebrities could also be affected as police continue to investigate a large number of phone numbers discovered in the course of the operation.

A number of addresses have been searched in the course of the investigation, including News International offices in Wapping, as well as properties in Chelsea and Sutton.
