Coastguard conducts yacht search

Solent Coastguard is conducting a search for a yacht, after a body was found in the water early on Tuesday morning.

The search is being conducted in the Solent area by a number of rescue units, including Coastguard teams and Coastguard Sector Officer from the Isle of Wight, Whisky Bravo and India Juliet Coastguard helicopters, the RAF Nimrod R-51 and the police marine unit.

The yacht is described as a 27ft blue hulled sloop 'Ouzo'. The man has now been identified, after a member of the public contacted police, but has not yet been named.

Murray Milligan, Regional Operations Manager said: "We now would like to hear from anyone who has seen the yacht he was on. It is called 'Ouzo' and is a 27ft single mast yacht. It has a navy blue fibreglass hull.

"We have been told that the yacht was due to leave Bembridge on the Isle of Wight on Sunday. It was heading to Dartmouth."

Three bodies recovered from the English Channel
The Coastguard has now recovered three bodies from the English Channel in the search for a missing yacht and its crew. The two bodies were spotted by the Coastguard's rescue helicopter on Wednesday night, five miles south of St. Catherine's Point, just off the southern tip of the Isle of Wight.

Search Resumes For Missing Trawler And Fishermen

Toddler found in sea dies: Father missing
A two-year-old boy who was found floating in the English Channel has died and police say that the search for the boy's father is continuing. At about 6.40pm on Sunday Solent Coastguard received a call from a yacht reporting that they had discovered a dinghy floating empty about a mile out to sea.

Ferry examined in yacht-sinking inquiry
Police investigating the deaths of three sailors after the sinking of their yacht are examining a ferry as part of the investigation. Police began examining the P&O ferry Pride of Bilbao on Tuesday night. P&O has also handed over the black box recorder from the ship to police.
