Teenager remanded over 'bomb plot'

A 17-year-old youth charged in connection with an alleged plot to blow up transatlantic airliners has been remanded in custody.

The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at City of Westminster Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

He has been charged with possessing articles, including a book on improvised bombs and suicide notes, which could be useful to people preparing acts of terrorism.

A bail application was denied.

Another suspect in the alleged plot also appeared in court on Tuesday. Cossar Ali, 24, the wife of another suspect Ahmed Abdullah Ali and the mother of an eight-month-old baby, was charged with failing to disclose information and was remanded in custody until September 5.

Another suspect, Mehran Hussain, 23, the brother of Nabeel Hussain, who is believed to be one of the eight suspects still being held in police custody, did not appear in court, but was remanded in custody in his absence until September 19. He was also charged with failing to disclose information.

Mr Hussain's brother Umair, 24, appeared in court charged with failing to disclose information last Friday.

He was remanded in custody until September 1.

Last Tuesday, eight suspects - Tanvir Hussain, Umar Islam, Arafat Waheed Khan, Ahmed Abdullah Ali, Ibrahim Savant, Waheed Zaman, Assad Ali Sarwar and Adam Khatib - appeared in court charged with conspiracy to murder and preparing acts of terrorism.

They were remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on September 4.

Man remanded in custody charged with Pc shooting
A man has been remanded in custody today charged with attempted murder over the shooting of policewoman Rachael Bown. Trevon Kyron Thomas, 24, from Bilborough in Nottingham was also been charged with possessing a firearm. There was no application made for bail. He was arrested at Heathrow Airport on Friday morning.

Four Remanded Over Lancashire Park Death
A 20-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy have been remanded in custody charged with the murder of a father-of-five who was stabbed to death in a Lancashire Park earlier this week. Mohammed Bilal Bhatti, 20, of Holcombe Drive in Burnley and a 16-year-old who cannot be named because of his age, appeared before Burnley Magistrates' Court on Friday.

Second teen in court over Peter Woodhams murder
A second teenager has appeared in court charged with the murder of Peter Woodhams. Mr Woodhams, 22, was shot dead near his home in Canning Town, east London, following a confrontation with a group of youths outside shops on August 21. The 17-year-old from Canning Town was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on January 4.
