Rottweiler attack baby's grandfather stabbed

The grandfather of a baby girl who was mauled to death by two Rottweiler guard dogs in a Leicester pub has been stabbed in a separate attack, police have revealed.

John Brightwell, 50, was seriously injured when he was attacked at his home in Beaumont Leys, Leicester in the early hours of Sunday morning.

His partner, Debra Larn, 47, was killed in the attack. Mr Brightwell's condition is now described as "stable".

A 26-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman have been arrested in connection with the attack.

The attack is not being linked to the death of the five-month-old girl - who has not been named by police, but has been named in reports as Caydee-Lee Glaze.

Police are continuing to investigate how the two Rottweiler guard dogs were able to maul the baby in the living quarters of a Leicestershire pub.

The child died after being attacked by both dogs at The Rocket pub in Stephenson Drive, in the New Parks area of Leicester on Saturday afternoon.

She was rushed to Leicester Royal Infirmary, but died from her injuries.

It is believed that the child's grand-parents were the landlords of the pub and that her parents were looking after the place while they were on holiday.

Both dogs were removed from the pub and were put down by a veterinary surgeon on Sunday.

Flowers and other tributes, including balloons and teddy bears, have been left by local people at the entrance to the pub.
