Police arrest escaped prisoner

Police have arrested a convicted armed robber on suspicion of escaping from a prison van on his way back to jail last week.

Craig Hickinbottom, 24, was arrested at a house in Smethwick in the West Midlands on Thursday.

He had been serving a six-year sentence for robbery when a van taking him back to Blakenhurst Prison was stopped by two armed men and he was freed.

Two other men, aged 23 and 24, were also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender unlawfully at large.
