Man shot dead by police

A man has died after being shot by police during an operation to prevent a suspected armed robbery attempt in Kent.

The incident happened around 8pm on Tuesday night at a building society in New Romney in Kent.

The man was shot and injured and was taken by ambulance to the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford, Kent, where he died.

Three men were arrested during the operation, which was conducted by detectives from the Metropolitan Police's Flying Squad.

A firearm was also recovered from the scene and was removed for forensic examination.

It is understood that no police officers were injured in the incident.

Scotland Yard said that the incident had referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission for investigation.

Man Arrested Over Kent Doctor's Murder
A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a doctor in Kent. Consultant paediatrician Dr Victoria Anyetei, 54, was found in her car in the driveway of her home in Dartford on August 14. She had been stabbed to death. Kent Police said that the man was arrested on suspicion of murder at an address in Dartford.

MoJ Reveal Drone Used In Prison Smuggle Attempt
The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has revealed that a drone was used to try and smuggle a package into the grounds of HMP Bedford. An MoJ spokesperson said that the aircraft was "quickly intercepted by vigilant staff" on 06 March.

On 3 May, Kent Police began a search for Michael Wheatley, 55, who had failed to return to HMP Standford Hill after being released on temporary licence.

Police To Face Charges Over Detainees Death
Two Kent Police officers are to be charged after a man died while police were restraining him. Pc Maurice Leigh and Pc Neil Bowdery are to be prosecuted for misconduct in public office following the death of Colin Holt on 30 August.
