Man found guilty of daughter's murder

A father has been found guilty of the murder of his three-year-old daughter at Northampton Crown Court.

The court heard how Gavin Hall, 33, killed his daughter Amelia by drugging her with anti-depressant tablets and smothering her with chloroform at the family home in Irchester in Northants last November.

Hall, a hospital radiographer, also attempted to kill himself.

Hall's wife, Joanne, found the child under a duvet in the living room the following morning.

Hall had denied murdering Amelia, but had pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

The court heard how Hall had discovered that his wife was having an affair with a married judge before he carried out the killing and attempted to commit suicide.

He was convicted after a six-day trial.
