Three charged after Kent police shooting

Three men arrested during an incident at a building society in Kent where police shot a man dead have been charged.

Robert Haines, 41, from Challock, near Ashford, was shot and injured during the incident at a building society in New Romney on Wednesday evening. He was taken by ambulance to the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford, Kent, where he later died.

David Jenkins, 60, from Ashford, Dean Jenkins, 39, from Rainham, and Ben Greham, 21, from Upper Norwood, south-east London have been charged with robbery and possessing a firearm. They are due to appear before magistrates.

The incident has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission for investigation, as is normal procedure.

On Thursday, it emerged that a firearms officer involved in the shooting of Brazilian Jean Charles de Menezes had shot Mr Haines.

Mr Menezes was shot dead at Stockwell Tube Station last July after being mistaken for a potential suicide bomber.

Two Robbers Killed In Suspected Bank Raid
Two men have been killed in a shooting during a suspected armed robbery attempt at a bank in Hampshire. The men were shot by police outside a branch of the HSBC bank in Chandler's Ford in Southampton on Thursday. It is believed that they were attempting to rob a security van outside the bank.

Merseyside Police have reported that a double shooting has left one man dead and another critically ill in hospital. The incident happened on Ravensthorpe Green, Norris Green, in Liverpool at about 01:00am this morning. In a statement police have said a man, believed to be in his 30s, died at the scene.

Man found dead following reports of shooting
Police are investigating shootings in south Wales which left a man dead and two men injured. Gwent Police said that they had been called to a report of a shooting in Usk View, Govilon, Abergavenny around 2:50pm on Sunday. Two men, believed to be brothers, aged 17 and 20, were found in the garden of a house.

University gunman was 'disturbed loner'
The gunman who shot dead 32 people at a US college has been described as a loner, whose college work was "disturbing". Cho Seung-Hui, a 23-year-old from South Korea, who had been resident in the US since 1992, was an English student at Virginia Tech who lived on campus.

Double Murder Investigation Underway In Islington
A murder inquiry is currently underway following a shooting in Islington. Police were called at approximately 4.30am yesterday, following reports of a shooting outside Strang House, Britannia Row, in North London. Officers, ambulance service (LAS) and air ambulance (HEMS) attended and discovered two men suffering from gunshot wounds.
