Eighteen people rescued from jammed fairground ride

Eighteen people were rescued from a fairground ride in Scotland after it jammed, leaving them trapped upside down for more than an hour.

The people, aged between eight and 27, had been on the ride at the fairground in Strathclyde Country Park in Hamilton, near Glasgow, when a mechanical fault caused the ride to stop just before 9pm on Sunday night.

Those on the ride were left hanging upside down before rescue teams managed to free the mechanism allowing the seats to be brought upright. The passengers were then removed from the ride in pairs.

One passenger, a 27-year-old man, was taken to hospital suffering from shock.

An investigation is due to be carried out by Health and Safety executives.
