Police re-issue appeal over fatal hit-and-run

South Yorkshire Police have renewed their appeal for information after a woman was killed in a hit-and-run collision in Sheffield.

Barbara Thompson, 54, died after she was struck by a car near Deerlands Avenue, around 2:20 am on November 19.

She had just got out of a black taxi cab when the car, which police believe was a silver VW Golf, struck her.

The driver of the car failed to stop at the scene.

Mrs Thompson was taken to the Northern General Hospital, but died a short time later.

Inspector Geoff Young, who is leading the investigation, said that forensic tests were being carried out on a silver VW Golf which was recovered after the crash Insp Young said: "We are not sure as yet if this (the car) was involved in the incident. We do know this vehicle was stolen from The Wicker in Sheffield around 1:30am. We would like to speak to anyone who saw this vehicle on the Wicker or being driven around after 1:30am on Sunday morning."

Two more arrested over attempted car bombings
Police investigating the attempted car bombings in London and Glasgow airport have arrested two more people. Two men, aged 28 and 25, were arrested in the Paisley area, west of Glasgow on Sunday night Five people are still being held in connection with the attacks, but it is believed that at least one suspect remains on the run.

Man Killed By Police Car In Reading
A man has died after being struck by a police car in Reading. A police officer also hit by the same car is being treated in hospital, his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening. Police say that the two men were struck by a patrol car responding to a report of a burglary in Eastern Avenue at about 01:45 on Wednesday morning.
