Prince William begins life as Army officer

Prince William is beginning life as an Army officer as he reported for duty at the barracks of his new regiment, the Household Cavalry.

The 24-year-old is joining the Blues and Royals regiment, the same regiment to which his younger brother Prince Harry belongs.

Prince William, who graduated from Sandhurst last month, will be based at Combermere Barracks in Windsor.

After several weeks of settling in at the new barracks, the Prince, who is now known in the Army as Cornet Wales, will begin five months of training at Bovington Camp in Dorset.

He will also learn to be a troop leader with an armoured reconnaissance unit, just like his brother Harry.

However, William, who is second in line to the throne, will also spend time with the RAF and Navy in preparation for his position as Head of the Armed Forces when he eventually accedes to the throne.

After his first year in the Army, the Prince will begin to concentrate on constitutional affairs.
