Religious groups stage gay protest

Protestors are to hold a rally outside parliament today against the Sexual Orientation legislation.

Religious groups claim that the laws, designed to ensure equality in the provision of goods, facilities and services, will discriminate against religious beliefs.

The groups claim that the laws would remove the right to turn away homosexual who wish to hire facilities for wedding receptions.

Gay rights groups have accused religious leaders of "scaremongering," and that the laws would prevent discrimination against gay and lesbian people.

Protestors will hand in a petition following a procession outside the Palace of Westminster.

The House of Lords is to debate the legislation for England and Wales today.

The new laws are already in force in Northern Ireland.
