Pakistan girl custody case dropped

The mother of a schoolgirl at the centre of an international custody dispute has dropped her claim for full custody, it has been revealed.

Louise Campbell had been fighting for custody of her daughter Molly Campbell, now known as Misbah Rana, who left her home in Scotland last year to live with her father in Pakistan.

Misbah, 12, had sparked an international manhunt following her disappearance from her home in Stornaway in the Western Isles last August to travel to Lahore in Pakistan with her father, Sajad Rana and her older sister.

However, Misbah insisted that she wanted to remain in Pakistan, saying that she left Scotland of her own free will and had not been abducted.

In December, the High Court in Lahore had ruled that Misbah should be returned to her mother, but her father had appealed the decision in Pakistan's Supreme Court.

It has now been revealed that Mrs Campbell has dropped her claim, citing health problems, believed to be stress, due to the ongoing custody battle.

It is now thought that an out-of-court settlement regarding access to Misbah will be agreed between both parents.
