Investigation launched following discovery of human skull

Police have launched an investigation following the discovery of a human skull in woodland in Aylesbury Vale, Buckinghamshire.

A man discovered the skull on a Sunday morning, as he walked his dog in Wendover Woods.

The skull has now been removed from the area, which is known locally as 'The Bowl', and it has been cordoned off while police officers from Thames Valley Police search the site.

The skull has been removed and police are working with forensic archaeologists and specialists in order to determine the nature and origin of the bone.

Detective Sergeant Pete Foy said: "Inquiries are ongoing to ascertain the age of the bone. Specialist advice is being sought from a number of sources including a local archaeologist and a forensic anthropologist. Due to the scientific methods being applied this process may take a number of weeks.

"I would appeal to people who visit the woods regularly and, in particular, 'The Bowl' to come forward if they have any information about this discovery or the discovery of other bones in the woods."

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on: 0845 8 505 505 or Crimestoppers on: 0800 555 111.
