Greenpeace wins nuclear power battle
Greenpeace has won its legal battle which means the government may have to reconsider its plans to build a new generation of nuclear power stations.
A High Court judge ruled that the government's consultation process before making the decision last year was "seriously flawed" and "procedurally unfair".
The environmental campaign group claims that ministers did not present clear and concise information on key issues such as the disposal of radioactive waste and the cost of new plants.
The decision can be appealed to a higher court.
Sue Fletcher, a spokesperson for British Energy, said: "We're disappointed, but this does not detract from the fact that there is a clear and obvious need for new generation capacity and nuclear power needs to be part of that. We will continue to make the case for new nuclear power."
