Man in court over toddler rape and murder

The uncle of toddler Casey Leigh Mullen has appeared in court charged with her rape and murder.

The two-year-old was found dead at her home in Oak Tree Crescent in the Gipton area of Leeds on February 11.

A post-mortem revealed that Casey died from compression of the neck.

Michael Mullen, 21, of Lawrence Road, Gipton, appeared at Leeds Crown Court via videolink on Wednesday.

No pleas were entered and no application for bail was made.

Mr Mullen is due to appear before Leeds Crown Court again on April 16, while his trial date has been set for July 2.

Two men charged with the murder of 17-year-old Aamir Siddiqi have appeared in court this morning. The men appeared at Cardiff Magistrates Court and have been remanded in custody. Ben Hope, 36, and Jason Richards, 35, are accused of killing Aamirr Saddiqi and attempting to murder his parents at their home in Roath, Cardiff on 11 April.
