Man found guilty over Mohammed cartoon protest

A British Muslim who demonstrated against cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed has been found guilty of soliciting murder.

The Old Bailey was told Abdul Muhid, 24, from east London, led a series of terrorist chants during the protest in central London on February 3 last year.

The court heard how Muhid was seen at the protest, which marched from Regent's Park to the Danish Embassy in Knightsbridge, wearing a jacket bearing the slogan 'Soldier of Allah' and carrying a banner which said 'Annihilate those who insult Islam'.

Muhid had denied the charges against him. He was remanded in custody following the verdict.

The protest had been held in protest over the publication of cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohammed. The cartoons were first published in a Danish magazine and were subsequently reprinted in newspapers in several European countries, although they were never published in any newspaper in the UK.
