Three arrested following London 'brothel' raids

Police in London have arrested three people following raids on two suspected brothels.

The raids were conducted at properties in Victoria, in central London, and South Kensington, in west London, on Monday night.

Two men, aged 34 and 35, and a 26-year-old woman were arrested at the Victoria address on suspicion of conspiracy to control prostitution, trafficking women within the UK and money laundering.

Eight women were also recovered from the properties, which are both believed to have been operating as brothels.

A number of cars were also seized under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said that the raids, codenamed Operation Lirio, was carried out by the clubs and vice unit, following four months of police surveillance.

Detective Superintendent David Eyles said: "I hope that this operation sends a loud and clear message to anybody involved in this dreadful trade. I also hope it shows them that we will not only arrest perpetrators but will take away from them their trappings of wealth and ensure that they are stripped of their assets."
