Funeral held for murdered teacher

The funeral of a British teacher who was murdered in Tokyo is taking place today.

Lindsay Hawker, 22, was found dead in a bath of sand in an apartment in the Japanese capital in March.

She had been badly beaten and strangled.

Miss Hawker, from Brandon, Warks, had been teaching English in Japan since October.

Police are still searching for the main suspect Tatsuya Ichihashi. The 28-year-old lived in the apartment where Miss Hawker's body was found and fled the scene when the police arrived.

The funeral, which her family described as a celebration and thanksgiving for Lindsay's life, is taking place at Coventry Cathedral on Thursday, and it will be followed by a private burial attended by Miss Hawker's family.

An inquest into her death was opened and adjourned by Warwickshire coroner Michael Coker earlier this month.
