Murder investigation after woman 'set on fire'

Police in Merseyside have launched a murder investigation after a young woman died after apparently being deliberately set on fire.

The woman, who suffered serious burns, had knocked on the door of a house in Blindfoot Lane in the Rainford area of St Helen's in Merseyside on Monday, begging for help.

Paramedics were called to the scene shortly after 9pm and the woman was taken to hospital, where she later died.

Police said that they believed the woman might have been set alight using an accelerant.

A murder investigation has been launched and officers are carrying out house-to-house enquiries in the area.

Police are also trying to establish the identity of the woman, who is believed to be in her early twenties.
