School bus carrying 30 children crashes

A group of 30 schoolchildren have been involved in a collision involving their school bus in Hartlepool.

The incident happened just after 3:30pm on Wednesday afternoon. Three vehicles were involved in the crash - the school bus, a mini-bus and a Renault Megane Scenic.

Emergency services have declared the crash as a "major incident", although it is understood that there have been no fatalities.

Numerous ambulances have been called to the scene and nearby Catcote School is being used as a holding base for a number of casualties.

Parents attending the scene have been advised to go directly to the school.

An air ambulance is en route to the site and will use a nearby rugby club as a landing zone.

Police have closed roads in the area.

School Bus In Birr Involved In Crash
A school bus and another vehicle have been involved in a crash near Birr in Co Offaly. Gardaí in Birr said they are investigating a crash involving a school bus this afternoon on the Rath to Kilcormac Road in south Offaly. There were school children on the bus at the time of the accident, but all were unharmed.

Primary School Teacher Jailed For Indecent Images Of Children
A primary school teacher has been jailed for six months after admitting making a possessing indecent images of children. 40-year-old Simon Clannachan pleaded guilty to 14 charges of making indecent images of children and seven of possessing pornographic images portraying a sexual act with an animal.

£1bn is being unlocked to fund the Department of Education's free school meals commitment. The news, announced by deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, follows an announcement in September that every child in reception, year 1 and year 2 in state-funded schools will receive a free school lunch.
