Football clubs raided in corruption probe
Three football clubs have been raided by police as part of an investigation into alleged corruption in the game.
The clubs involved have not yet been officially named, although according to reports, Newcastle United's ground, St James' Park, was one of the places raided.
It has also been reported that Rangers FC and Portsmouth FC are the other clubs which were targeted by police.
The raids, which took place between 7:30am and 9:00am on Monday morning, involved searches at three clubs and the homes of two individuals, who have not been named.
Police said that the investigation was "totally independent" from Lord Stevens' ongoing Quest inquiry into the Premier League.
A police spokesperson said: "We can confirm that search warrants were served at three football clubs and the homes of two individuals in connection with corruption in football and its impact on owners and shareholders."
A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said that they were aware that "an operation" had been carried out by their London colleagues at St James' Park.

Fans of 18 football clubs have come together to petition their respective clubs to stop carrying advertising by payday loan company Wonga on their websites. The group, lead by Northampton Town supporter Bob Ward and grandson Dan, are also encourage fans of more than 60 other clubs to do the same.

Think! road safety campaign links up with Football League
The Think! Road Safety Campaign has signed a new six-figure sponsorship deal with 60 clubs from the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Divisions of The Football League. Road safety messages will reach a wide audience via perimeter advertising boards at over 40 live TV games from Division 1, and at least five live TV games from Divisions 2 and 3.
