Briton injured in Alps climbing accident
A British mountaineer is seriously ill after suffering a climbing accident in the Italian Alps.
Peter Knoop, 42, was injured when rocks smashed down on him as he completed a climb with friends on the Gran Pilastro in the Italian Dolomites near Trento on Sunday.
Mr Knoop, who is vice president of engineering at electronics firm Azuro, was wearing a helmet when the incident occurred.
He was picked up by a helicopter ambulance from the side of the mountain and taken to the nearby Santa Chiara hospital. However, doctors there decided that he needed to be moved to a specialist head injuries unit and he was flown to Borgo Trento Hospital in Verona.
It has been reported that he is in a coma.
Mr Knoop, who is married with one son, lives in Elmdon, near Cambridge.

Two British climbers have lost their lives in a fall while attempting to scale a frozen waterfall in the Italian Alps. Peter James Hussey, a 46-year-old father of two from Lincoln, and Sarah Kathleen Ball, 33, from Ambleside, died from injures they received in a 300ft fall on Saturday.

Protesters Climbing London's Shard Building
Six protesters are climbing the Shard in central London, western Europe's tallest building. Metropolitan police were called to the building at around 4.25am on Thursday morning. It is understood the protesters accessed the building via the roof of the nearby London Bridge Station.

Son's rescue bid fails in Spanish climbing tragedy
Three British men died during a climbing expedition in Spain's Sierra Nevada Mountains, despite the attempts of one of the group to go for help. Stephen Riddiough was reported to have woken on Sunday to find the other members of the party - his father Colin, Paul Dick, both from Saltburn, and John Plews from Redcar - unconscious.
