Former boxer 'critical' following shooting

A former British heavyweight boxing champion is in a critical condition in hospital after being shot outside a club in southwest London.

James Oyebola, 47, was shot in the head and the leg in a courtyard at the Chateau 6 club in Fulham Road in the early hours of Monday morning.

Mr Oyebola, from northwest London, was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

Three men were seen running from the scene.

Detectives from Operation Trident, which investigates gun crime in London's black community, are investigating the incident.

According to reports, the shooting may have been sparked by Mr Oyebola requesting a group of men not to smoke in the venue.

Man Arrested After Five-Year-Old Is Injured In Shooting Incident
An 18-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the shooting of a five-year-old boy. The child was shot and seriously injured at his home in Essex. The boy has been taken to the Royal London Hospital at around 13.20 on Sunday. His injuries are believed to be serious but not life threatening.

Shotguns Recovered In Newport Shooting
Police investigating the fatal shooting of 46-year-old Caroline Parry in Newport last week have said three shotguns have been recovered. It is understood the firearms belonged Ms Parry's estranged husband, 49-year-old Christopher. The woman was shot dead in Seabreeze Avenue, Newport, on Thursday.

Man Released In Boxer Shooting Investigation
A 22-year-old man who was arrested in connection with the shooting of former British heavyweight boxing champion James Oyebola has been released on bail. The man was arrested in Putney, west London on Tuesday. Meanwhile, another man, who was arrested at Gatwick Airport on Wednesday is continuing to be questioned by police.

Man Jailed For Attempted Murder Of Pc
A south London man has been jailed for 25 years for tying to shoot a policeman. Michael Mitchell, 32, of Babington Road, Streatham, was convicted of attempting to murder Pc Shaun Callow, possession of a firearm and possession of drugs with intent to supply.

University gunman was 'disturbed loner'
The gunman who shot dead 32 people at a US college has been described as a loner, whose college work was "disturbing". Cho Seung-Hui, a 23-year-old from South Korea, who had been resident in the US since 1992, was an English student at Virginia Tech who lived on campus.
