Teacher Killed Australian White-Water Rafting
A PE teacher from Liverpool has been killed during a white-water rafting school trip in Australia.
Ian Robinson, 47, was the head of rugby at the fee-paying Merchant Taylors' School in Crosby, Merseyside. He was on a three-week rugby tour with the school's rugby team, when the incident occurred.
It is understood that Mr Robinson died on Tuesday afternoon after his raft overturned on the Tully River near Cairns in Queensland and his foot became trapped.
No-one else was hurt in the incident and the trip has been cut short. Twenty-four boys, aged between 15 and 17, are being flown over and will be provided with counselling.
David Cook, Headmaster of Merchant Taylors' School, said that Mr Robinson had taught at the school since 1984 and would be "very much missed and very fondly remembered". He said that everyone at the school was "sad and profoundly shocked."
