Suspected Lough Pollution Investigated
An investigation into suspected pollution in Lough Derg is now underway.
The Irish Coastguard Pollution Centre launched the investigation after people in the village of Ballina reported a strong smell of fumes.
A fire crew from North Tipperary and a coastguard unit from nearby Killoloe are inspecting the scene where the spillage apparently occurred.
A boom has also been placed in order to prevent the possible further spread of any substance.
It has been reported that the substance is highly toxic paint thinner.
