Teenager’s Body Found After ‘Tombstoning’
Coastguards have found the body of a 16-year-old boy at Minehead Harbour in Somerset.
It is understood Sam Boyd died after “tombstoning” – an extreme sport craze where people jump off cliffs or rocks into the sea. The local teenager had been missing since Thursday and his body was found in the early hours of this morning when the tide ebbed. His body was taken to Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton.
The boy’s friends had confirmed that he had jumped off the harbour wall.
A Coastguard spokesman said: “We know he jumped into the harbour wall and that he swam a short distance, then all of a sudden was crying for help and then apparently sank like a sack of potatoes.”
He added: “We believe they were ‘tombstoning’, which is something that children don’t tend to see the danger in, unfortunately.”
The Minehead, Watchet and Porlock Coastguard rescue teams, the local RNLI inshore lifeboat and local fishermen were all involved in the search.

Fire at BT exchange disrupts phone services
Up to 25,000 BT customers have had their services disrupted after a fire broke in a telephone exchange in Scotland last night. The fire at the facility on Mansfield Road, Musselburgh, mostly affected customers around Musselburgh, Longniddry and Gullane where landlines and some mobile phones are out of operation – including 999 services.

Police Appeal For Missing 15-Year-Old
West Yorkshire Police have appealed for help in tracing 15-year-old Umme Habiba Tahir from Bradford. The teenager was last seen in Bradford city centre at about 17:00 on Tuesday, 18 August. She is Asian with dark brown hair which was tied up in a bun. She is described as very petite, around 5ft 2ins tall.

Two Girls Excluded From High School Over Teacher Murder Plot
Two teenage girls aged 14 and 15 year who were arrested over an alleged attempt to kill a teacher at Cwmcarn High School, have been permanently excluded. The pair were released under police bail after being questioned last week over their behaviour at the school, near Newport in South Wales.
