Man Remanded Over Double Murder In Winchester

A 64-year-old man has been remanded in custody charged with the murder of a mother and her young son in Winchester.

Kirsty O'Connell, 21, and her four-year-old son Patrick were found in their flat in Woolford Close, Winchester on Friday.

Police had broken into the flat after Ms O'Connell's family reported that both of them had been missing for days.

Police said that Ms O'Connell died from multiple stab wounds and compression to the neck, while Patrick died from asphyxia.

James Conan appeared before Basingstoke Magistrates Court on Monday charged with the double murder.

He is due to reappear before Winchester Crown Court on August 20.

On Sunday, Ms O'Connell's family released a statement, which described her as "a devoted mother and a much-loved daughter".
