Recycle And Go Proposals For Public Places

The Government has launched a public consultation on recycling in public places.

Dubbed 'Recycle on the Go' Ministers are keen to build on the progress made in recycling in the home by extending recycling schemes into public places.

The proposals aim to stimulate the provision of public-use recycle bins. The consultation proposes a voluntary code of practice and an associated good practice guide.

This takes forward the Government's commitment as part of the Waste Strategy for England 2007 to stimulate a new wave of public place recycling from 2008 and to provide guidance to managers of public places to help this happen.

One of the main recommendations is the adoption on recycle bins of the colours and symbols developed as part of Recycle Now, the national recycling campaign for England.

Under the proposals organisations will be encouraged to provide recycle bins for the public to use in a wide range of locations, both indoors and outdoors.
